4k sterling will buy you a half decent old shape L200. I've had an '01 'Hanimal for nearly 7 years. I had a bit of trouble with the anti-theft device on the pump when I first had it, nothing since. It could now do with a set of heater plugs now @ 89k. With an L200 you'll have to put up with a supertanker turning circle and very low 5th gear, which makes motorways a chore. fortunately, we don't have any motorways in Cornwall.

Just to make you aware - this is the address where they will send any Notices of Intended Prosecution (speeding fines, congenstion charge penalties, notices about parking tickets you've not paid) etc. These will only allow you 14-28 days to respond before they get heavy handed - so if you are not checking the post at that address very regularly then you may run into problems.

Thanks for this warning, it is an address with good friends that will open my mail and inform if my driving behaviour is not up to standard.

Aren't you better bringing a pick up over from Iceland or one on foreign plates so you don't get any tickets etc.
Its too much hard work to prosecute cars on foreign plates.

Transport cost expensive and would have to bring it back to Iceland once a year for MOT otherwise penalty charge of 150 pounds for not bringing it in for inspection on right time

be careful with the towing weights, depending on what you want to tow. Of the new pick ups, the Toyota has the lowest towing weight according to an article in ths months 4x4 mag.

Also, look into insurance before you do anything. As I am not now classed as UK resident by insurance companies, and have a swiss license (not an english one until I return properly), my insurance is costing 3 times what it did before Most UK insurance companies require you to be UK resident, with a UK license (you can get round the UK license bit for up to a year, but the residency is more difficult). Unless you lie of course, but then if anything happens and they find out....
