I think they keep all the good ones in France and send all the duff 'friday' models over to blighty.

Our Espace got through 2 head gaskets and 2 torque converters in a matter of 2 or 3 years of very low mileage motoring, and not even towing anything.

I had a new Renault Laguna 175bhp diesel on hire not long ago - stupidly fast top end but nothing lower down at all. Would be a nightmare to tow with. The clutch would smell on any hill start.

The Vectra I hired a few months later was a much better car overall.

I knew someone with an older Laguna - only car I have seen with an oil level or dipstick guage. It needed it as well - 1L of oil for every trip to London - 400miles.

Pugeots on the other hand seem to go for ever - or the older ones did. Mate had a Pug 309 that did 375,000 miles - the car fell apart - the engine was still going strong!!!

Not allowed to touch a Renault, Father in law as a mechanic doesnt like them, they see the problem ones.

HAd a 206 but had a gearbox issue at 70K, decided to get rid of it, then the radio died, so traded it in.

OH has a 307, her dad reckons it wont pass its MOT when its next tested. its only a 52 reg.

I had a KA now got a focus, love it and would get another Ford again. Also like the way VW's still run, defo gettin one of them when i can

Yes but so do we - the new Jag/Land Rover V6 3L diesel is prob the finest diesel in the world - and it's made in Wales!!!

And the old Rolls Royce 6.75 V8 was replaced by a BMW V12 - and was then changed back to the RR engine.

Would not by any French car on principle. What they did to Ryton was a slap in all of our faces IMO.

I don't see the logic of buying any car other than British if you have your own business - everyone from the local shop keeper - pub owner - RIB training school - yacht chandler etc etc benefits from British people having jobs and more money to spend.

Buying a German or French car hardly puts much money into the UK economy does it?

A British assembled car?

I'm not sure there are that many UK owned car firms, however those that are would present an intriguing choice, none of which would suit towing a RIB... Bristol, Ariel, Caterham, Morgan, Noble, Caparo...

I had a new Modus, fantastic motor, cheap to run (diesel), I averaged 64 mpg in the 2 years I owned it. Wouldn't like to change the headlight bulbs, I think the front of the car has to come off.
Only sold it as we needed to tow, and yes another Frenchie, 2005 Citroen Berlingo 2HDl, this is a car I should have bought years ago, a van with windows, can't afford to be a car snob as am now retired.

...well buying a German car will probably ensure you spend more time doing your business than worrying about the car whilst buying French car will be good for the UK ecconomy for years to come - as the local dealership/garage get paid to keep fixing it
