2012 LEZ issues with 4x4 Japanese imports

Apparently quite a few non pickup Jap import 4x4s have been registered by DVLA as a 'light utility vehicle' rather than an 'estate'. This means they AREN'T compliant with the new 2012 London Low Emissions Zone requirements and as such will cost you £200 to drive into London unless you get DVLA to correct the body type.

The problem seems to be prevalent with Hilux Surfs, but my old Isuzu Mu had been misregistered by DVLA as well-check K543CBO to see it (only just realised-luckily I don't own it anymore).

If you've got a Jap import 4x4, check your logbook or check it here ( https://lowemissionzone.tfl.gov.uk/b...s?referrer=lez ) or you could get an unexpected nasty bill.

Cool

It's worth mentioning that apparently Toyota are being completely unhelpful, even obstructive about confirming the body type on the Hilux Surf. A suggestion from the Hilux Surf forum was 'park it outside your local DVLA office'.

Isuzu were just as bloodyminded when I tried to buy parts for my Mu, so I'd guess that asking a manufacturer to provide proof isn't going to be a lot of help.
