Here are photos of what the boat looks like under the deck. Unfortunately the center hollow fiberglass stringer was full of water when we pulled the deck out. It will be interesting to see how much lighter the boat is now that we put it on a diet.

I have the same boat and am looking for a quote on tubes also.

Most of my rigging is built in aluminum but like what you`ve done with yours.

It`s also nice to see what`s under the floor without cutting it!

New deck installed with newly fabbed bow locker. I opted to install a 25.5 gallon underdeck fuel tank while the deck was out and run all rigging and wiring under the sdeck as well.

I got a similar Zodiac Pro 530 without an engine. I stil don't now how many HP. I an considering 90 Optimax, i want it fast but dont now if tht is fast enough. I want 45 knots with 4 people.

Not sure what kind of numbers you'd get with a 90 Merc. I am at 37mph on a GPS with four people on board, gear, and 25 gallons of fuel. It is a little slower than I had hoped for but it is a comfortable speed for the family.

I'm propped to reach 40mph with 2 guys, 500# of gear, and 60 gallons of fuel with my 115 horse 2-stroke. The boat chine-walks badly over 42 mph.

Can you explain "chin-walks" ? Do you mean that 115 HP is too much

Chine walking is a side to side rocking of the boat. This occurs at high speed when little of the hull is in the water. The actual speed will depend on the boat hull and load.

When this occurs the boat will rock to one side and then rebound to the other side. As the speed increases this rocking becomes more pronounced and the frequency increases. When the boat is chine walking it is at the limits of controlability and an upset can occur fairly easily. The only way to avoid this issue is to keep the boat speed below the speed at which this starts to occur. If you find yourself in this situation you should slow down. Going faster will not (usually) improve things.

In and of itself a 115 may not be too much. If the boat is loaded up it may be just the ticket. However, if the boat is light 115 at WOT it may be too much.

ssobol gave a great explanation of chine walking.

The 115 is just under the max rating for the boat and as mentioned isn`t too much motor if you haul alot of weight but it is a bit much empty.

I wil be adding Nauticus tabs to keep the bow down and that should help a bit with stability. I will report back when I do...may not be til next season though.

I do like mine. I use it extensively on the salt water here in Alaska and it does ride well considering it`s length. I run my boat fairly heavy when out and have done a bit of modification as well. One thing I can say is that they favor weight in the bow over weight in the stern.

hi, my friend and i just picked up a 1988 zodiac 530 with a 70 hp johnson outboard at an auction for what we thought was a good price, the motor runs, the tubes hold air but are old. can any of you give us an idea of approximate value of the boat if it had new tubes on it? thanks!

Have you been doing a test in water ? How fast is it with 70HP ? I can not tell you the value because i am from Denmark. I have just ordered new tubes in Hypalon for about 2000GBP. I am doing a complete refurb of mine.

I too have just taken on an old 530 pro, fitted with a Mariner 75 3 cyl, the one with the 2 part rear hinged cover (is that the "wrap around" or the "Clam shell"?). I've only been out in it once since owning it, and after a reasonably long lay-up time, so we didn't get too far as we found a few minor issues but, with 3 adults and a small child plus 50l of fuel we hit about 30mph. As I said, the trip was brief as the engine overheat came on (water paths blocked with silt, now hopefully resolved) and the steering needed replaced (also done), so I didn't play with trim. I also don't have a tacho (yet) so don't know if the engine is running at full revs or not. I can concur though, that it does like weight up front, hence my console and fuel are all up in the bow as much as possible. Can't wait for the next opportunity to get out and try again. Unfortunatly winter has set in so it could be a while.

here is my zodiac! I assume it's worth fixing up, but would be very grateful if anyone could give me an idea of it's current value and value if it had new tubes and hull was repainted.
