Willard 730 OB Transome build
We started a cool build, converting a Willard 730 Diesel to an Outboard with a splash well. In the coming days we will fill the transome and buld the support for the transome which we have pushed 24" fwd of the original, we are also cutting off the front of the old diesel console and glassing it in fwd of the new splash well for storage. We will be using the console, arch and seat from a 733 OTH.

What's the upside to doing it this way instead of a bracket?

Save 3,500 on a bracket and reduce the number of external holes, one less poiint of failure

True, if you don't need the 24" of interior space. But, no worse than the stock storage box that was there.
Did you reinforce the transom? Knees? Beefed up stringer attachment points?
Interested to see how this turns out!

No reinforcement, the transoms are built strong and have no need for reinforcement in our application, we do a few things when we fill holes to distribute weight.

Gday Ryan, I thought outboards without an extension bracket spoiled the performance somewhat!? I'm looking at doing a similar conversion on a note here, and curious about the best way to go!

you dont need a braket, they offer a longer water lins which = a smother ride, but on the transom you will get a nice ride all the same

That looks good Ryan, nice and clean. I wanted to cut my H630 transom down that clean as well but it came out like jack o latern teeth.

working on aft sun deck livewell hatch
We are going to add a livewell and 2 speaker pods on the end of this bench, hope it comes out as good as it looks in my head....
