Talking of rapids - in Mid Wales there is a dam with a very steep run off sluice. Always wondered if you could go down it and live - seems you can. Maybe I will try the SIB without the outboard!!!

Photos really don't do it justice.

Sounds like a betting pool is being set up to see if Codders can successfully run it in a SIB.

I think it might be doable... however I should mention a little bit of the history of that section of rapids in the pictures I posted.

Apparently this spot had a very steep 15-20 foot drop with some really nasty boulders at the bottom prior to several Hydroelectric dams being erected along the Winnipeg River system. While it is is now known as 'Lamprey Falls' it was once known by the courier-du-bois of the region as 'Chute De Jaques'.

According to explorer/historian Paul Kane, at some time around 1846, Jaques was dared by one of his cohorts to run the rapids/falls in his birch bark canoe rather than use the portage. Not one to back down from a dare, Jaques proceeded to entered the rapids with his trusty canoe as an audience of other runners-of-the-woods watched from the point. Apparently bits and pieces of the canoe (but not Jaques) were seen to emerge from the cataract below.

June 2006 hundreds of RIBs went out to the North Sea to meet the Volvo Ocean Race before they arrived at the port of Rotterdam. I was one of them, at the orange arrow.

Er... some short term memory loss there codders?

You were on about the llyn brianne dam overspill because of the Lamprey falls photos. Hence my commentary about 'Jaques' experience at Lamprey Falls. But thanks for reorienting me on what the discussion is about
