SRMN v Hurricane

For example 550 SRMN v 533 or similar Hurricane. How do they differ in handling, performance. I'm pretty sure I'm unlikely to push them to their limit. How would Open Pro 550 or say Yachtline compare to heavy duty one. Tubes are not as durable I imagine. What about handling.

I have no experience with the smaller Milpro Zodiacs, but I tested a 730 SRMN in France before buying the Hurticane. The 730 is much lighter, rated for 200 bhp IIRC, very nice ride, stiff hull, the tubes touched the water at read and the boat was great for inshore diving. I found no way to install a reserve fuel tank in the 730. I decided to spend twice more for the Hurricane 733, the 733 is heavier and the ride is better, for the length.

i have a 730 SRMN and it is far from "commercial" grade as implied. ... NO seam tape and the cone seam came open!

can (also) be a wet ride with load of passengers on choppy day!

pretty far from hurricane quality ... guess it is all about your use!

Take this with a grain of salt, but the dealer I got my Hurricane from (I think!) told me that this SRMN line was the former Bombard line... If so, it's a much lighter duty boat and designed to get to a price point. Hurricanes are so expensive that a rare few can afford new.

I was told the same by the French Milpro people during my research. They reinforced the hull and decks. I have no info on the tubes.

Willard would be good too but haven't seen many in the smaller sizes. Inboards don't make sense to me in anything smaller than the 6m boats.

Vancouver BC craigslist is a good place to monitor for zodiacs.

This been for sale for long time now. Way too much money for this old of boat/ancient 2 stroke motor for my liking. Something closer to half of what is being asked might be reasonable. IMHO
This one was listed on ebay for $12k for awhile 2001 H533 Hurricane with Honda 90 4 Stroke

Unfortunately setup with huge console, bolster, and single seat in front ain't going to work very well for seating family of 5. Not much deck space is left either for extra seats.

The H733 or Willard would be better for a family of five IMHO.

Well if you really are considering bigger, the H630 range is a great compromise. It's a substantial very seaworthy boat and can handle 5 easily. Would be a great size for the Gorge.

Yes the 733 730 is amazing but you do have to think about cost, everything is a lot bigger and more complicated and expensive including the trailer and the truck to pull it.

Yep of course storage, towing, and parking would be quite a bit more hustle. My 2500 should be able to handle either with appropriate hitch. Mileage will suck since it's a gaser. What are restrictions on towing 9' wide boats?

Looks like it's 102" max in CA,OR,WA Towing it partially deflated or just skirt the law a bit?

Deflate it, you can only get 3 day overwidth permits in WA. And 5 day Western Regional Permits.

The reality is that you are unlikely to get pulled over for a <9ft wide load. If its > 9ft you will probbaly get pulled over and will also have travel curfew restrictions. Don't forget the widest part of a 733 might not be the boat itself (which should be 8ft 11.8 inches) but the wheels/fenders.

The other reality is that you won't trailer a big beast nearly as far as you're planning on right now. Statistically speaking, big boats end up staying close to home and getting less use than something easier to launch, load & fuel.

He's not a rib.net'er so I'm ok with sharing -Former California Department of Fish & Game boat. Less desireable triple chine H533 (rides WAY rougher than the deep-v H533). He paid $4,875 for it. I've seen it listed for sale as high as $24K

CA is easier. <10 ft. and $90/yr allows you to exceed 8'6 and not need a pilot car. Since you live up north, listen to captjack and the WA rules. Sounds like a pain!

I'd disagree. My trailer, including wheels/fenders) is much narrower than the boat) (inflated)

I don't have an overwidth boat, but I also rarely see anything >8'6" as well.

I looked into overwidth permits myself awhile back and concluded the 3 day limit ($10 each) was a pain. But between skipping the permit for short trips to the closest ramp (3 miles away), the option to deflate to trailer it, and the occasional longer trip inflated at $10 a permitted trip it wasn't that bad a deal. It helps that there's a permit office close to me.

I think the reality is that alot of people here have really big boats (although open ribs tend to be rare), the bigger the boat the fewer days it gets used.

I have no idea about OR rules.

I know. +10% buyers premium +trailer (original sale didn't include trailer). 750 hours on motor. Handy profit if he sells it. Missed original sale by few days.

Didn't know H533s come with different hulls though.
