Project LOMAC

A little progress. Console is just about done but getting a bit crowded and messy. Helm seat installed in the VERY restricted space behind console. This was a big problem. Ended up with a air spring pedestal that fits into a alum. socket 4 inchs deep through the deck. Fitted a pair of tube braces also, but have yet to fit a cover for the attachment. The seat itself is a standard fishing seat but good enough to rest your bum on or use as a leaning post.

Looking good, LL.

Is that a Standard Horizon mount for your mic?

Let us know how the seat works.

Yes, it is a SH RAM mic. mounted on a ? fitting that was already on the boat.
Had to make an adaptor block to mount the the RAM. If you look closely you will see the actual radio mounted lower in the front of the console. I am very pleased with the Shakespear 8 ft. 6 db antenna. I can recieve (just) transmissions from the lake 25 miles away from my driveway. I have already tested the seat without the bracing and found it a bit sloppy, hence the addition of the bracing tubes. Need to take out the Ritchie compass and send it to San Diego for refurb. Half the cost of a new one.

I regularly pick up CG transmissions from CG Sector San Francisco when I'm boating in Monterey (80 or so miles.) The other day I picked up transmissions from CG Bodega Bay, which, according to Google Earth, is a straight line distance of about 130 miles. Those guys have some serious transmitters.

Oddly, CG Station Monterey is often broken and static-filled; their antenna is something like 20 miles away. Often the MLB's and SAFE boats come in clearer than the station does (obviously, distance has something to do with it.) Go figure.
