After three weeks of soapy water and patching I have now got the tubes to stay up. I have been fooled by the presuure release valves for the last few days. In the afternoon the surface temp. of the tube is about 120 F so the valves blow of and the tubes appear soft next morning when the temp. is only 70 F. Guess I am going to have to live with that. Just moving on.
Have go have some surgery next week so progress will be a little slow for a few weeks, but the wife has been trained in tube cleaning so will still make progress

Needed to find a Mercury service mechanic to fix my gear drive. Guy, in his 50's came around today to pick it up. Apart from the fact that he is an Aussie :which makes me feel better. He looked at the lower unit ( prop off and on the driveway next to the lower) Told me the pitch of the prop and that someone had installed a Mercruiser bearing carrier in it from 10 feet away. Quite impressive. Guy is a one man business that tows a workshop trailer behind his HUGE truck. We will see what the bill is.

I would be suspicious! Are you sure he didn't fit the bearing carrier and sell the prop to the previous owner ?

Have made some progress on the tubes. The weather is a big problem. Have only from 5 am to 9am to work on them before the high temp. makes the use of adhesive and tube paint impossible. I have got as far as the application of several base coats to the very worn areas and a first top coat to some of those. See attached pics. Progress will be slow for the next few weeks as have to get one of those big C. things cut out tomorrow. At least I can do some more boring scrubbing with tolulene to get rid of the oxidization.
PS. If you are over 50 please make sure you get a PSA test every year.

Have restarted project. decided that to make any progress I would need to arrange some shade/ sun/ rain/ dust protection for the boat. Already had a bunch of elect. conduit and fittings so Have just jury riggeda boat cove that will allow me to work on the boat. Have attached a few pics. The tarps are the silve reflective type. The whole kit weighs i at about 60 lbs. and can be rigged by one person in about 1/2 hour. need add a few more bungees.

cold damp and foggy here. I've just had some tube repairs done and it's been slowed down due to cold weather.

Need to thank you for your tip on the tube fill adaptor for the Harkley Roberts. Their distributer in the USA is NRS inflatables. Ordered two and the cost was only $11.00 inc. shipping. Doing any tube work is close to impossible with temps over 100 F and humidity below 10%. Paint, glue etc, just drys on the end of the brush in about 2 secs.

Sorry Pat about the lack of progress reports. have been recovering from prostate cancer surgery. Wearing bags and maxi pads really sucks. Got back to work this last week, Ho Hum temp. is 110 F. Managed to save my business fortunately. Movin on.

Hope everything came out well re the surgery.... I have heard it takes a while to get back up to speed after prostate surgery, plumbing needs to reacclimate....
110? wow, I could enjoy that on the water.....

I did not know /understand the recovery stuff. Back to work now but it is hard. I will get there. Yes, the surgeon says he got it all.
