Need Help Identifying RIB

Hello,

I'm new to the board and need some help identifying a RIB my agency is acquiring from the USCG. I could not find a hull plate or any other manufacturers markings. The boat is approximately five meters in length and has a Yanmar Diesel engine with the water jet drive. Any information would be appreciated.

I believe that is an AMBAR, but not sure of the model...you can find info here:

look up under all deck hatches with a mirror, should find id number, first three didgets will tell who made it

It is an Ambar. Used to be carried by USCG cutters. Good boat but very slow. There was one on Ebay recently.

I nearly purchased this specific boat a few months ago from the guy that bought it at a military surplus auction. Had quite a few E.Mail chats. Max. speed is no more than 25knts. light loaded. However, it does appear to be in quite good condition. Would make a good harbour patrol/ tug boat.

Thats Ok Tomas. We have been boat owners for 30 years. We use the huge AZ lakes ( Mead, Powell, Pleasant etc.) and trailer to the Sea of Cotez , Mexico. 4 hours drive. Last time a checked there were more boats per capita in AZ than any other state. Surprising is it not.

The boat numbers in Az are a surprise to me as well as you being able to find ocean within four hours! Still....it's a good call on the Ambar from the desert SW! I used to do a lot of offshore work fishing with a guy name Pete and we'd see a big salty just breaking the horizon and I'd go, "Container Vessel...Panamax". Pete would reply, "Nope....VLCC", and would always be correct. He could spot a Coast Guard Frigate before it broke the horizon but I won't go into any of that.....

Anyway, keep the cactus spines out of your hypalon and I'll try to clean up my compliments!

The boat you are looking at in the picture is an AMBAR 550.
The length overall in 17'.
It's powerplant is a Yanmar Diesel with a Jet Dive.
These were used as deck boats on the USCG 87' Cutters.
The boat will fly alond at about 20-25 mph with one or two people on in. If you put 3 or more on it, it slows waaay down.

My Department aquired one last year, and I have been spending the last year tracking down information on this boat. Our boat was on a USCG Cutter out of Cape May New Jersey.

We were having some problems with it overheating, and we were able to solve the problems by AGGRESIVELY flushing the cooling system and switching coolants. If you are having trouble with overheating, let me know before you spend any money, and I will send you some information and links that you should find helpful.

I was able to track down the waterjet manufacturer. we needed a new skeg, and were able to buy the parts and service manual for twenty bucks.
