how fast is your rib?

took my 14 footer out in slightly choopy water and got up to 36 mph w/Yamaha 50 hp at 5300 rpm.

seemed really scary. felt like boat was gonna flip over. maybe if it was calm it wouldn't have felt so spooky, but it did feel like i was going pretty fast.

In calm water, my 21' Ribcraft, powered by a 150 hp honda, tops of at 43 knots, or 49.5 mph. At the speed you were at, it sounds like the boat was chine walking, which can be pretty scarey. There are a number of threads in the rib forums on chine walking.

it was kinda wobbling from side to side. is that chine walking?

i've run it WOT on calm waters, and it is fine.

Ribcraft 585 with a four stroke Honda 90 will do 36MPH on the flat with a crew of 2.

This boat weighs more than a small planet. When I cut some holes in the console they were over 8mm thick. It is a nice solid boat and handles the sea better than me

Ribcraft 6.8 with 225 ETec: WOT - 47 knots (54mph), cruise - 38 kts (44mph). Best deceleration figure - 7kts to zero, instantly, several times, after running aground or hitting rocks.

Os'prey Vipermax 7m -250Etec, best 49.1 knts. Consistantly 47 running a 23P 4 bladed Cyclone, propped for grunt and grip, moreso than top speed.

I asked the question of Ribcraft themselves and the reply I got was that the max design speed for the 585 was 45 knts. This of course depended on all the usual variencies. I have with two up, no gear. calm had it at 43knts very nice but only for the best of conditions as youra@se is barely in the water!!

Polaris 17.5' aluminum RIB (fairly beamy), Yam F115; will touch 40 MPH with just me and dive gear; normally loaded (2 or 3 divers and gear) top is generally about 36 or 37 MPH. 5 or 6 divers drags it down to just over 30.

I usually run with a full or near-full load of fuel, which I think is 30 gallons. I also have probably a couple of hundred lbs of miscellaneous stuff on-board (dive spares, tool kit, extra dive lights, spare lead, etc.)

Never can remember exactly what the old Raymarine says regarding speed, for me its about the ride which is always enjoyable no matter what speed I'm traveling at... I'd hazard a guess at between 50 and 55 knots top end.
