Getting a RIB in the UK to the US

Greetings from the other side of the pond.

I found a RIB in the UK that I want to get, but I don't know if I can get it shipped over here? Does anyone know what it would cost?

http://www.boatsandoutboards.com/view/F200933/

Thanks,

John

You probably want to speak to someone like this: http://www.autoshippers.co.uk/Boat_S...g_Services.htm

I'm not sure it will be economical with a lower valued boat (I would be surprised if you can get it shipped for less than the boat).

I know that when the family shipped a container full of stuff to the caribean it was about £4k - but that was a full container . I guess you need to see if you can get 'space' in one thats going , get someone to deflate the tubes / wrap it up well etc and wait several weeks while it gets to you.

There are specialist boat shippers ( for the really big stuff) that could give you steer.

Somehting like : http://www.autoshippers.co.uk/Boat_S...g_Services.htm

could be a good start ? ( I just googled them so no experaince of if they coudl be good or not ) - .

Seesm like a good price (if its in decent nik)

PS realised polwart already posted link - I'm a muppet !

The cost of shipping will be more than the boat.
Can't you find anything more suitable in the US?

I wish I could find one, but it would not be at that price.

If it were a bigger RIB, and on a trailer, you could put it on a RORO (Roll On, Roll Off). Still going to run you a couple of thousand USD. That plus duty, and heaps of hassles. Your $1500 USD RIB will be $5000 USD and days of your time before it lands in your driveway.

Seriously, be patient and you'll find what you're looking for closer to home. I looked for around a year before I found a decent RIB at a good price. Found my Searider on eBay, turned out to be 2 towns away!

Scour Craig's list, eBay and local boatyards and yacht clubs.

Dc's right.!
I shipped my 5.5 xsRIB from southhampton to Port huneueme about 4 years ago and it was just over $2,000 then.
Although still cheaper than shipping a ribcraft from Marblehead, where they wanted over $3,000
My RIB was put on a metal frame cradle and put on a RORO and was handled by a very efficient company out of the UK. (But it is a bit of a wait )
Customs went very smoothly though and they found it a bit of a novelty
cheers Dal

It is one thing when the $2000 spent on shipping a RIB accounts for 2-4% the total price of a RIB, quite another when it accounts for 200% of the price of a RIB.
