East TN SIB Action

My Brother in Law and I are slowly working our way around the Tennessee Valley Authority Resevoirs. I live on one. We liked Fontana so well that we took 3 years or about 12 days to see much of it, camping on Smoky Mountain National Park Islands.

This year we had to do an abbreviated trip which worked out ok since the weather wasn't that outstanding. We did this the week before Memorial Weekend.

Watauga in Northeast TN. About 18 miles long, but lots of coves.

Normally we camp, but were feeling lazy this year. Brother in Law was moving his 42 footer from FL to MI. Three nights in the lap of luxury and blender drinks.

I have a Achilles LSI 10.2 with a five HP Mercury.

He has a LSI 9.0 with 8 HP Johnson.

Taking a break during some anticipated showers in an empty boat slip.

It did clear up occassionally. The Cherokee National Forest borders the north end of the lake. Camp anywhere you want...if you can find a flat spot.
Week days are quiet. Not so on the weekends with fishing and water skiing action. Many pontoon boats and rentals if you are so inclined. Makes a nice place to visit if you are in the TN, NC area vacationing.

The clouds painted some interesting skies.

There are 4 marinas on the lake so fuel is not a problem.
On the west end there is a nice State Park with boat ramps.

One of our camping trips on Fontana.

Loaded for camping a couple of years ago.

Looks beautiful. I sometimes wonder if I made a mistake by buying diesel due to the limits they've placed on using it in fresh water.

That must be a Cali thing. I have never been on a lake in Fl, TN, MI, AZ that says you can't have a diesel on said inland body.

My 5hp 2 stroke Merc is like new (12 years old) but I'm thinking of trading it in on a 6-8 hp 4 stroke.
I hate to give up a motor that only weighs 44lbs though.
Have to see what the dealers will do on a trade now that Fall is around the corner.

I really like doing these SE mountain lakes. The FL Keys are lots of fun too!

Stunning, stunning scenery, hopefully the weather is clearing here in the UK this weekend and I'm off down the Hastings/Eastbourne coast tomorrow for the first sea trip of the year - it's nice enough but somehow doesn't compare to your pics above!

Funny; I was wondering the same thing, and I live in California. I've heard of the two stroke ban (not as bad as it sounds - DI 2-strokes are OK); it's on exactly 2 lakes in the state: Tahoe and one other I can't remember. Never heard of a diesel ban.

I guess if it smokes it's illegal in California. ; -) won't be long and California will require the propane OB.
That State boggles my mind and even more so, much of what it does is actually the will of the people.

For sure Diamond Valley here in Southern California. I thought it was most places that were drinking water sources???

I haven't looked it up, but someone told me that diesels are a no no too.

Diamond Valley, eh? Maybe that's three. The other was up north and inland somewhere.

Lots of lakes ban any internal combustion engine; that's not really relevant to the type-ban conversation.

Interestingly, the second lake I was thinking of doe NOT show up on this list by DBW:

Local Restrictions on Personal Watercraft and/or Two-Stroke Engines

Lots banning PWC's (but that's not necessarily due to emissions, especially with 4-stroke PWC's out now.)
