I was approached about doing support for the swim leg of a triathlon a while back. Nothing came of it, but from what I understood, they want boats on standby in case someone cramps up, or partially drowns, or whatever.

I was also approached about scuba diving below the competitors to keep an eye on the swimmers, but nothing happened there, either.

Check out their payment scheme before participating; taking payment for use of a recreational boat is frowned on by the CG.
