I believe:

Mercury Marine are part of the Brunswick Corporation.
EP Barrus are the Exclusive Distributor for Mercury Marine engines in the UK.
The range of boats mentioned here is sold under the Valiant brand in the UK. Valiant are owned by Brunswick.

Barrus aren't Mercury - they're the Mercury Franchise holder in the UK, IIRC...

They sell lots of kit - Yanmar for example

Even if he does live way down east there are NY to Connecticut ferrys from Port Jefferson and Orient Point that will make that drive much shorter, although more expensive with a trailer. The Port Jeff ferry might even be his best bet if he's just on LI outside on NY City.

I know you can take trailer on the Pt Jeff Ferry, never been on the Orient point ferry. I take the Port Jeff ferry every year driving from the in-laws in MA to family on Long Island.

From this I deduce that (maybe) Mercury agreed to repair the boat once a while ago when its was <5yrs from the date of purchase. Defender did so.

That repair has failed but now its >5yrs from date of purchase and Mercury is no longer willing to pay for repairs under warranty even though they recognized (through their initial warranty work) that the tube was defective.

Which is why a product lawyer should be involved. A warranty repair that fails implies that the product was not repaired (ignoring any other possibilities for now.) Where a manufacturer can get a little pushy on the definitions, the lawyer can push back, so to speak.

Not sure this is exactly what's been going on, since garyboat hasn't explained Mercury's position worth a damn, but if its the case I agree.

Seems that bitching on this forum has not gotten the rise garyboat wanted so he left
