5.4 Avon Searider and Mercury 100 HP???

Hi to everyone! My name is Myko and I live in Barrie, Ontario. Last 6 month I'm working on my project 5,4 Avon Searider (have replaced transome, floor, serviced tubes, new central console...) Working just during the weekends. I think need 3 weeks (very cold to work in garage) to finish all glass, gelcoat and painting jobs. Will post the pics lately. On my 5,4 Avon I gonna istaled Mercury 100 HP, two stroke outboard motor. 5,4 Avon Searider rated up to 90 HP... What You think??? Any idea??? Thanks.

What model mercury? If it's a tower of power then forget it-too heavy.

That's a lot of work you've done though-nice one, got any pics?

Sounds good! 100hp is over the max that Avon specify for them though so make sure your insurance will cover it...

Hell, put 9.9 stickers... then you won't need to license the boat!

Apart from the 90 hp merc having 3 cylinders and the 100 hp having 4 cylinders. Also a 92 Merc 100 could have the 2+2 idea. Below 1800 revs the engine only runs on 2 cylinders for economy and the extra 2 pick up when the revs exceed 1800. Barking idea, how does that save fuel on a 2 stroke as its only the ignition that is cut. Anyway the upshot was they didn't idle smoothly and didn't pull very well if you went skiing. Wouldn't be my first choice of engine. A lighter 90 hp Merc or Yam would be a better choice.

Pete

Now there's an idea - our local cutoff point is 15hp - council officials only ever bleieve things they read on bit's of paper etc so they would never know the difference!!!

5.4 Avon and Merc. 100 HP???

What I see, Merc 100 HP is not the best outboard for my RIB, So, what about Honda 45 HP, four stroke??? I was planing to sell Honda 45HP on eBay, becouse to small... for 5,4 Avon Searider.

Yep, way to small you would be really disappointed with 45 hp. Stick to one of the 3 cylinder engines, a Yamaha 90 would be excellent if you can find one.

my 5.4 has a 115 mariner (4 cylinder from the 80s) on it... way too big and heavy, but it flies.
