200hp on an 18 footer

1996 Zodiac 18' Military RIB with 2009 ETEC 200

Seems like a lot of weight for an 18 foot boat...I'm thinking that RIB might be a little bigger.

The near complete absence of information on the hull is kinda an issue...
"18' Zodiac Military style"???

Looks like it might be PVC? Or some sort of camo? Lord knows what the hull & transom are actually built for.

As C-Numb says, that's a lot of weight on the transom even without the overstress of the HP.

My Polaris is about 18' with a 115; I'd be a little leery about twice the HP. Now a 150 would be a different story...

I've been looking for a rib for a couple of month....scary the suff that I've found.

Went and looked at this yesterday after seeing a craigslist ad and talking to the guy....he reiterated everything in the ad.

Zodiac RIB

It's a project, but, $4,000, really???

And my other option has been this Otech 560....best option yet. Well taken care of but he wants $16,000 for it. (Otech 5.6m, 2006 Etec w/ 300hrs). No work to be done on it except adding a leaning post/seats.

Anyone think that this is worth jumping in on? Seems steep...

The first boat is worth buying for the engines IMO. Then find yourself a decent hull to stick them on

All comes down to what you want to do. A project boat will put you 6 months to a year away from getting on the water. The Otech will thin out your wallet, but you'll be running in a few weeks (if you drag your feet.) And, of course, there will be other boats showing up eventually.

How much is getting out worth to you?

first option?

Kinda looks like a SIB... Sure theres a rigid hull under there?
Talk down the owner of the $4000 project, It takes a dedicated enthusiast to take on and see the potential in a RIB like that.
Or just wait, I am sure as winter approaches boats will pop up and people will want quick sales.
I guess it depends on how long you can delay gratification
GOOD LUCK

Avlus: Talking about the first boat? I thought the same thing, but then figured the pics were taken at just the right angle to not show the hull (though I'm not saying intentionally, nor am I saying I was right about it.)
