Looking at the links, they come with transducers, so at sub £300 they are a good deal

>>> pikey’s link is the Garmin modern equivalent of what I have so would do the job

Would you not buy a bigger screen semi-permanent mount with all UK marine mapping included for the same price??

Chartplotters: Garmin Echomap CHIRP 45cv (dv) Excluding Transducer (010-01565-10)

Then you have the option to upgrade with a transducer.

I have the similar but previous model 45DV and wouldn't be without it.

I just thought I should update with my choice. I went with the Garmin 45CV, and first impressions are good. Does what it says on the tin - will suit SIBbers are easily removable.

My only criticism is that the Bluechart mapping doesn’t have Loch Lomond on it at all. Has anyone found a way to add it? Not a huge issue for me, I know the area well enough to Navigate most of it be memory (or trial and error when that fails) but as my son increasingly is taking over it would be good for him to know where he was going!

Can't add it, I looked at it a while ago as I run a pair or garmin.

If you find a way let me know.

You lot always know where the bargain plotters are...

Great minds - We got a Garmin Echomap 45 - comes with all the charts. Seems very good for the ££ and can unclip off stand or flush fit.

Xk59D,

The Garmin comes with the option to "capture your own" mapping from depth signals (but I haven't bought a sounder), and then to share them via Garmin's online community. Sadly whilst there are a few traces on there the loch is far from complete so it doesn't look like that would be a way forward in the short term - if you have a sounder it might be worth you collecting and sharing your traces if you plotter supports that, as if a few more people start to it might encourage others?. It wouldn't have any bouyage either.

More positively OpenSea map is apparently compatible with (most) Garmin devices. As far as I can see there is no depth information or bouyage on the loch though. Personally I'm not too worried about depth - provided there are no hidden rocks etc. Its open nature means its quite feasible for someone to record the positions of the bouys and add them to the map. I need to check if you are "allowed" to simply read them from the established map and manually enter them or you must visit each one and record its coords. I wouldn't be averse to doing that.

I've just put the boat away in its secure storage again, so can't test it with a download (my device isn't explicitly listed as supported but it may just be too recent).

I don't goto loch lomond too often to capture anything,
I just assume everything is shallow up there in a restricted zone.

Garmin has bought navionics (I think loch lomond is on there?) so you may get compatability at some point if they can release firmware to run the different maps (or add the info to current bluecharts). I don't know what hardware each map needs so it may be hardware restricted in current units.
