What's the logical process to obtain VHF licence?

Getting a new boat, VHF radio etc soon.

I've not passed my VHF test yet, but learning!

I've taken a look at the Ofcom site, but I'm now getting a little confused about the correct "order" to do things.

Do I do the test first? Or apply for a licence?

How do I get the MMSI number?

It's all sooo confusing!

Register with Ofcom and get the licence for the boat-you'll get the MMSI number then. I'd register ASAP then it'll all be ready when you pass the VHF exam.

It sounds like you have it all sorted, more so than some. (The Ofcom site is not the most welcoming nor efficient!)

If you have not already - get in touch with Tim Griffin as he is in Cowes and does the VHF course and then some:
