Maplin do a low cost one which is actually a W1082 underneath and with come linux code available via googlecode can be made to work rather nicely... far cheaper than any other solution I've seen.

As for web cams - my experiments with cheapo cameras have had lots of issues with contrast - either its too light mid day or too dark near dawn and dusk.

And if you want to keep the IC happy just use low res images..

Sorry - I was referring to the weatherstation.

http://wittongilbert.free-online.co.uk/weather/
(Weather is off-line right now - has been since summer when I move office)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-wireless...ecaster-223254
(Looks like they have none on-line. There are several in branches near me.)

And here's the code to upload the content:
http://code.google.com/p/pywws/

I could poit you to some code to upload some webcam content from linux. BUT the first thing you need is a cam that will take the pics at the size you want and a web connection that supports the resolution of data you need...

so - what's the purpose of the webcam? Why not look out the window!

Do you want to have any remote control on it?

What operating system?

Now - i have station, played with it in my Office and good bit of kit, even has an iphone app!

Now i have the task of getting somebody to install on gable end...

Any body have any advice for mounting a Davis Vue on gable end, and how high should it clear the roof line?

I was thinking Ariel Pole 30mm , 1.5 mm , but scared of stress fatigue, would stainless steal be better....

How much for 4 foot 30mm...?

Your thoughts please....

Scott

It's wireless? Why don't you stick it on the flag pole, you might find even a 4' pole won't get it into clean air for accurate direction.

You only need to mount the anenometer and vane high up, both of which are very light. A standard aerial pole would be absolutely fine IMHO. With the IP logger does it display full historical data or just current? I use the PC FTP software which allows me to control the data being displayed my weather page
