Vhf mast

Hi all

I want to mount a vhf antenna on the transom of my sib to give the handheld vhf some extra range. What do people use? What antenna, cabling, mast etc?

Many thanks

Simon

RIBase
I used to just stand up - either that or fit a battery and main set.

I have a fixed VHF.
The antenna is something very similar to this: Supergain Task RIB VHF Antenna with Bracket | Gael Force Marine
It comes with a cable (you'll need the right fitting for your radio).
It is attached to a stainless broom handle (from a chandler - substantially cheaper than any special mounting pole, and the "handle" is reasonably well finished so no sharp edges etc). Poles are available in different lengths for yachties scrubbing hulls.
That is mounted to a seat back with some of these - Stainless Rubber Lined P-Clips -- it could just as easily have been on the transom, but I got a bit of extra height by having a jockey seat back.
