VHF and warranty periods

I am thinking of getting some new Waterproof VHF's and was wondering if any makers did more than a standard 1 year warranty, or an option for an extended warranty?

This suggests the ICOM 601 warranty can be extended to 3 years. Where's Jon Brooks when you need him?

BTW, try not to give your name anywhere when ordering - I'm sure everyone's heard of your reputation for breaking things!

Rouge, I'd recommend ICOM. One of our handhelds flooded and was replaced under the 3 year warranty. Top service.

It is true we offer 3 years FOC as standard on all our marine kit.
The radio's come with 12 months as standard.
Fill in the card and send it back here we will then give you 3 years.
This does not cover batteries on hand helds (they only get 12 months)
This does not cover bad installs or abused sets!!

Stuart, highly recommend Icom's M1 EuroV with w/proof mike. Brilliant bit of kit. Would be even better with a nice yellow belt holster though.

What is the problem with the mic?

You know you do the odd comentry and eveyone then wants your pic and autograph (thinks.... dreaming again!)

Am not sure as to my next visit to the Solent.
Next deff visit is for Southampton Boat Show.
We are having our own stand for the very first time.
We are also looking at having 2 ribs on the "try a boat"

I am sure I will that way before then but nothing deff as yet will let you know.

Pete, its still on the list to find but we don't have that many of them in.

Basically it doesn't transmit. When you press and hold the 'transmit' button, the receiving station hears the click but not the voice message.

Any ideas would be gladly received!!!

Best Idea is to rip it out send it here marked for my attention.

I could but I would have to shoot you!

Ok I will tell you but you must promise not to tell a sole!

I worked as a technical consultant for a very large private investigations company.
My main role was technical surveilance, bugging, debugging, video, CCTV etc.
Testing and trying all the gadgets, so more of a Q than a 007!

When I was not doing that I did some of the "on the ground" work.
This included car following, foot following eveything your average private eye would do!!

The company also did body guard and close protection work.
So I was also involved in that side, inc driving duties.

It was a great 2 years of my life.
Learnt a lot, saw a huge amount that you only see on TV also got to work with and for some very famous people.
All the guy's I worked with in the company were if ex or serving "Hereford Rambling Assoc" of the "Poole Paddling Club"!!

Get me drunk sometime and I'll tell you my "war" stories!!

But remember you did not here any of this from me!!

Cool - now, in my fantasy, I see you springing from your rib and unzipping your drysuit to reveal your tux. You move stealthily along the pontoon, crouching low as you peer over the harbour wall before springing up onto the wall, rushing over to the villain and disarming him with a quick flick of your wrist. Then you grab your ICOM handheld and whisper into the handset. You saunter into the nearest hotel and take the lift to the seventh floor. Everyone knows this is where heaven awaits...

Well funny you should mention that!!
Whilst in Cork last week I had to attend the Admirals dinner.
I had to get back to my hotel and get into my suit.
The quickest way to do this was by boat!!

So I flew across the harbour in a 7.4m Redbay (at about 35mph)
Shower, shave and into my black suit then back to the Rib.
I got some great looks from the guy's and girls sitting out side my hotel as I ran down the gangway, dived into the Rib and shot off at break neck speed!

I came very close to putting my dry suit over the tops and doing the strip of bit as I arraived back!

All the time the dum dee dee dee dum playing in my ear's

"so do you prefer blondes or brunetts?"
"I don't mind as long as the collors and cuffs match"

Are well back to me day job!

My nick name was for a while Chocice (and still is used in some circles)

Why? becuase one night in a pub my then girlfriend said "your a PI but your not as good looking as Magnum so I must be a chocice!!!"
Nice if we were on our own but with a large group of work mates and friends no way I was going to get away with that!

way could one determine if ones office / home / personal space was in any way bugged ? I've seen all these great gadgets you can buy to bug people, spy on your nextdoor neighbours wife in the shower etc, however, what about determining if some loathsome creature was bugging you, particularly in the office ?
