Time for a personal question - how big is your bilge pump??

Evening all,

Our Ribcraft 585 is fitted with a very pathetic 500 gph bilge pump and it seems to take a long time to clear the deck and splashwell of water after taking on a wave.

I am just wondering what size pumps other people have onboard their ribs in the 6m range?

Chris

My 6.8 Ribcraft has two pumps that were fitted at the factory. They clear the deck reasonably quickly but they're nowhere as good at shifting water as the elephant trunks. Try unclippling your pump and clearing the grate; this tends to clog up with crap after a while.

Well I did have 2 x 2000 lh auto rules fitted in the sump, and a whale 500 under deck which lasted all of 2 weeks, I've removed one of the rule now though, because it was hard getting small bits n bobs that fell in the sump, and wouldn't pump out, fish head n gutts etc. I'd like to fit some trunking aswell though.

Already tried that one and it was all to no avail.

It sounds like may have over cooked things by bidding on a Rule 3500gph pump on ebay!!

500 gph Rule auto & an 82mm diameter drain sock.

If the skiers drain off their wetsuits by sitting/standing on the tube for a few seconds before climbing in, the boat stays relatively dry.

Rule 1100 Does the job of keeping the boat dry for normal use and sitting on a mooring, however if you take a wave over the back I drop the elephants trunk, nothing beats that for sheer water removal...

If you're hose piping as much green as these guys you can forget bilge pumps. In fact, you can forget bothering with a transom; it'll just prevent water getting off the deck -

Exactly! Nice boat; Ocean Dynamics tend to omit transoms as well (doesn't mean you pay less of course!).

I have an Attwood 1250gph pump but it is still sitting in the garage a year after getting it

It does mean I am prepared for flooding though
