Sun hood - digital gauges

Very pleased with the data displays on the digital gauges on Lunasea, apart from when the sun is on them, they are near impossible to read.

Steering into the sun the whole time is not very practical!

So what I'm thinking is some sort of housing / hood to fit round them maybe 3-4 inches deep giving them some shade from direct sun. Maybe something that I can put on with velcro to make it detachable.

What materials may be suitable - something I can bend / form easily, light and attach detach as required?

It will need to be c. 30cm wide and 13cm long to fit round the gauges

Has anyone else had this issue and a solution?

Cheers

Have you looked into pro/am camera accessories or similar. A mate of mine is a cameraman and has all sorts of hoods/sun visors to keep the light off his viewfinders etc. Might be worth a try?

goto a local model shop and get some thin plasticard, can get it in varying thickness. (ebay has it too obviously)

if need be just heat it gently (hairdryer) and bend it with a steel ruler as your edge.

cheap, easy to cut/bend, waterproof, add velcro and job done.

you could also use 1.5 mm HDPE from direct plastics which you cam weld with a soldering iron and bend with a heat gun.

Well it might take some time and a few "concept developments" to get it right.

How hard would it be to bend some aluminium into a "U" shape, then fold a right angle on the base edge so I could velcro it to the console?

Best colour?- black to prevent reflection?...some kind of paint, or a layer of gaffer tape?.....so many possibilities

Have a look at
http://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/
The learn link has lots of video tutorials if you want to carbon fibre it.

I know, erring on the side of overkill, but nice project.

Reduce glare with anti-glare window film

might be worth looking into
