Standard Horizon HX280E handheld contstantly displaying "busy"

I have got a fairly old SH HX280E and recently the busy icon is always illuminated indicating it is receiving a transmission. This happens on every channel so cannot be the case. It will transmit fine when the PTT button is pressed?

Can anyone advise why this may be?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the Squelch has been lowered? Have you checked this?

Sorry forgot to mention that as well. Yes I tried the full range of the squelch and still the same issue.

My Icom 411 did exactly that and it was water ingress.

My 300E does that in a particular part of my hallway. All other places it is fine so I assumed it was interference from something. I know it isn't water ingress cos its never been out of the house (I only got it at Christmas).

I had this with my HX751 - mainly as I kept dropping it on concrete - I cracked the case - letting water in .

I split the case ( the screws in the corners on mine) & placed it in a lukewarm oven for a few hours. Put it all togther and fine again .

I dont rely on it for 'safety' as I got the SH with DSC now - but a good back up for general comms.

Thanks for all the advice. Tried the oven trick and sadly no luck.

Inevitable when stuff gets used by club members and put away wet despite being told!

Quick update on this. Swapped the aerial with someone who has the same radio and it solved the problem so luckily a cheapish fix.
