Sonar not working.

I've got a Garmin 551s when I switch it on I get a message saying...

transducer disconnected, sonar turned off.

I have checked all the wiring and the transducer cable and all seems to be where it should be, the GPS seems to be working okay but no sonar. Could it be the unit itself or would the GPS not work if that was the case.

Swap in a borrowed transducer (if available) and see if that works. Alternatively, if you know someone with teh same unit, move your head unit to their wiring.

Sure, you can lose the sonar and still have GPS. They're two different systems inside the box, aside from power.

I don't rate the Garmin plugs that much, twist them too hard and you knacker them. The plugs in the back of my 182 are sikaflexed in. I reckon it's a starting point.
