You'd need to know what caused it to fail: most likely culprits (IMO) are overvoltage from the alternator output feeding back into the panel, or the voltage drop at the output while cranking the engine.

i've thought of doing an electric outboard rib, i was going to run the outboard with a large 6cyl diesel generator, we tried a 240volt motor attached to a leg, it went ok on the water but the extension lead kept pulling out the wall
