Simrad RD68 - Garmin Interface

Hi all, new to this lark, so hope someone can help.

Have got a Simrad RD68 DSC radio with a Garmin handheld GPS 48. Initially great, they both work independently, but I cannot get them talking to each other, so I can get the GPS position into my RD68 automatically.

I have the Garmin interface cable, which has 4 wires on it. White - data in PC to GPS. Black - ground. Brown - Data out - GPS to PC. and Red power (fused).

The Simrad has 2 leads coming out for the NMEA. Red NMEA out data (+). Blue NMEA out common (-).

The Garmin in the interface section is set to NMEA/NMEA 4800 bauds.

The stuborn things WILL NOT talk to each other. Anyone got any ideas please??

Regards

John

If that doesn't work you might have the wrong cable - make sure it has NMEA out (just because it will talk to a pc doesn't mean it will talk to a GPS) and the settings are the same on both units as well.
