...and I'd swap the magnetic compass and the Fusion head unit when I was at it too.

IMO, the compass is no use to either party where it is and the navigator will be reaching over your instruments to twiddle with the toons.

Ally is easier. TIG a plate in, grind it back, fill and paint. Easy peasy.

Is he taking DD with him!

I think willks vhf posn is much better. Having the VHF easy for the navigator to reach is very helpful if you need to drive and call (e.g. responding to an incident, or trying to call the HM whilst making a tricky approach on a falling tide).

Patently not - or he'd have fitted a second VHF and plotter c/w WiFi to keep him occupied.


I was seriously considering an "auxiliary helm" for him too....
