I would have thought that the fact you've experienced a failure and had to travel back to the shop would be a good start for some good old fashioned bartering. Scots do barter don't they ?

I quite like the shop though, in this world of internet discounts a shop thats 15 miles from my house and stocks marine electronics at pretty much internet prices is not the sort of local asset I want to screw over, one day I might need them in a hurry (as I did on this occasion when I realised I wanted a second h/held for a trip the day before I left). You see a canny Scot picks his battles wisely!

However I have been thinking about fitting a fixed vhf to the boat too, so it might do no harm to discuss this when in there!

A wise Scot might well pick his battles, but why go to battle in the first place! Play the sympathy card...."Shame about the Standard Horizons build quality what I really liked was the Icom M71 but was just out of my price range as I was considering purchasing fixed VHF as well"

Indeed Scott you could ask him five different ways and the answer will probably be no. In fairness to him his prices are pretty competitive, I might expect a deal if people sell at "list".
