Rib Hi-Fi

Hello all

My Valiant 520 is a lovely boat, but missing one thing - sounds. I had an awesome system on my previosu boat -Mastercraft X-Star - tower speaks, amp, sub etc - It sounded great, but the fuel economy wasnt £30-40 an hour.

Im looking for a nice system, mainly for ipod/iphone input, tower speakers, two deck speakers, active sub and maybe an amp. What have other people used?

Any input greatefully received

Not sure there's many boy racer boom boom RIBs on here.

Dubstep and RIBnet are an oxymoron.

Oh dear, thanks for constructive input - NOT!!!

Hardly boy racer, I like my music, as do my family and friends, and its nice to have music on the boat, epsecially when boarding, skiing etc, which is mainly what our rib is used for. A subwoofer is about music clarity not boom, boom as you describe.

But thnks anyway........

Wasn't meant to come across as judgemental. Just that from experience on here there are few people that discuss the technicalities of sound systems. So i doubt there's much help. A few have a stereo with dock and a couple of speakers, but I've seen no one with towers, amps and subs.

I like music too, including dubstep etc played loud, but in a car or home it's more private. To play loud music on an open boat it isoften (not always) impinging on others enjoyment. Even those ashore. The volume required to hear over wind and engine is significant and carries for miles.

Fusion head unit with their iPod dock....don't think you can beat it for quality vs. value for money
You can even watch videos on the chart plotter from ipod....

Agree with the comments above though, it's only for good music played at a discreet level whilst at anchor!

Thank you, it just seemed to come accross like that. I already have the tower on the boat so will just add the speakers.

We are a family of five, with my youngest at 3, so the system will not be booming out, especially when inshore. However when out with mates etc, andd a good distance fom the beach it will be cranked up, nothing better than boarding to a bit of house music

I'd like to know what people have used at any level of marine hi-fir, whats good an bad - head units etc

Yep RA200 with the iPod/USB dock. Speakers set into the jockey seat bases.

Excuse the photos, it's a temporary mock up installation until the real helm panel is made. It gives an idea though.

+1 ...I didnt even bother with the dock - cable connects to my ipod which sits inside the console out the way . Good value , good quality ...

I too have a fusion unit professionally fitted when i got my boat in may. However, whilst it's ok when being used with iPod/iPhone as a radio I've found it pretty useless. Basically I've found it to be a pile of poo and wish I'd bought another system.

£900 down the drain.

Perhaps you need a better fm aerial. Nothing wrong with the radio on mine.
