I've got one of those-and the better Gobook waterproof as well. Don't bother. A proper plotter is far far better.

Flush mount, but take care to position it correctly, once you cut that hole, there's no going back.

I can recommend the SIMRAD EVO 2 range. They are both touch and button so have the best of both worlds.

Great screens and image quality is superb.

I had a 5 HDS elite (nav and fishfinder) and bought a 5 2 gen nav also.
I use the 2 Gen nav also to show AIS info. The elite I use as 5" depth screen.

Liking the idea on my ipad, but I am concerned about

: battery life
: screen visibility in the sun
: mounting
: what the costs are?
: water ingress on the ipad

The recently launched Lowrance HDS gen 3 is hybrid & looks very tasty lots of built in goodies that normally require additional modules.

.....sh1t happens.......

case has a waterproof power usb connector.
screen ok but you not paying for a dedicated device.
mounting Ram mount

Case circa 100 Software 30-50 mount depends on what you need, i share the mount between my motorbike and the boat so i have 2 bases and 1 connector on the case.

I've used it for 18 months on boat and bike and had no problems with water ingress.
