Raymarine RL70CRC

Has anyone got experience of the Raymarine RL70CRC Plus? In particular, it's display quality. Ta.

To be honest no but if you are thinking of buying one have a look at the C80 - all these special offers around that look so tempting but to be honest there wasn't much diff in price with the C80 which is a newer unit!!!

The display was/is fine, some cracking deals to be 'ad on them at the moment

No problem at all. I would like a bit of info from someone who has used the display in anger. I'll ask you a few questions and I'd be pleased if you would give me your views.

How wide a viewing angle has it got? Approx. each side.

In low light, is the backlight sufficient to give a good, bright image?

At night, can the backlight be turned down low enough for the display not to be dominant? It's specification mentions 8 backlight steps but that doesn't seem like fine adjustment.

Does the screen have an anti-reflective coating or a satin finish? If not, are reflections ever a problem?

Its not as fine as the C series is useable

Not really an issue for me, but not sure how it would be in your wheelhouse

It was good, but did take some getting used to after the old green display

30(ish) degrees if I understand the question - both sides.

Yes, no preferred side

Absolutely

Would have liked a finer setting, but you get used to it

Cannot recall off-hand, I think it defaults to pre-set level

As new there is a reflective coating, 2 years later I have to shield the screen in bright sunlight. That said, the Raymarine is streets ahead of other plotters in bright daylight viewing - IMHO!

One more question on the angle of view. Does it gradually fade as you move to the side or is it good for a distance and then fade abruptly?

Andy, that was clever!

The local Raymarine folk are BlueV they are fekkn useless. Just my opinion of course.

We have just purchased a E80 from Cactus, it was almost the same price as the C series well worth a call as all the Chart plotter makers are having a bad time at the moment as the Hurricanes in the USA have wiped out their market
