Hi all once more.
I have just noticed our Quicksilver speed dial is not going back to 0 but holding on 12mph. I have taken it out and not much to see. The tube connection on the back to the engine and two brass connections neither were connected but assume light connections? And a deep hole full of grease with two screws at the bottom. I don’t tend to use this a lot as the GPS does good job but would be nice to have it going as it there.
Question is do you think it can be adjusted or it dead

It looks like the rev counter may the same problem so off to get that out too

good to hear from you again, been a while.

Not sure about the speedo, as it works off pressure via the pitot(spelling?) tube. Might be worth trying to get some light pressure into it by blowing.

The tacho might just need resetting, most will re-set if disconnected and the 12V applied again.

Most likely the pitot hole.

look closely, and you'll see a tiny hole on the lower unit's leading edge; this connects to the tube that feeds your speedo. Water pressure builds and transfers to the air trapped in the tube, and the speedo reads that pressure. If the hole gets clogged (salt, debris, mud, little bits of fish; who knows) the pressure gets trapped, hence the reading while sitting still (or on the trailer.)

Take something like a tiny drill bit or stiff piece of wire, and clean the hole out; it'll probably fix it.

Oh, and make sure the tubing is *firmly* attached to the speedo; if it comes loose, you essentially have a tiny seawater firehose going in there whenever you're moving.

Thanks for the input but no joy. With some pressure from a pump the unit does work but always returns to 12mph and stays there. There does not seem to be any way into the unit.

Removing the hose from back of the speedo doesn't fix it? Then the problem is within the meter for sure. Any way of putting a bit of vacuum on it? No idea what it will do, but it isn't working now, so what's to lose?

The pressures it works off can't be that high, so perhaps just sucking on it may work

My rev counter also stays at about 1000 rpm when I stop the engine. However, it returns to zero if I just switch the ignition on and off again. No idea why, but it's done that from new.

Hi all and thanks for the reply(s). I have found out a little more from a man in the know. I have been told the rev counter will stick at what the engine was reving at when turned off just not noticed it before as i have changed things around and can see it a bit more. The other clock sounds like it has had it.
