I'd be inclined to keep it (perhaps on the boat if the new one is on you). It would be a fairly good bet that it will still work for the next 3+ yrs, although I understand why people might not want it as their first port of call.
If you want to dispose then deregister and ebay, I am sure there will be someone willing to take a chance on it or DIY battery replace.
