:-(

However I'm almost tempted not to bother, more so the gps. We've a handheld radio but a DSC could be worth it.

Old man never uses GPS and based on last 5yrs of playing local or in company i've had jack use of it really. Main worry would be fog but could likely sit it out. Erm

That said, what are the budget options? Got until April anyway.
Bosh! 200. I'm sure you could shop around, but it shows that if you really truly don't need a plotter you don't have to have one.

If you have a set of paper charts on board, combined with GPS...

For the Round Ireland 2013 we went for the Simrad NSS7 - you get the best of both as it has touch screen and buttons. We certainly got very wet - both from rain and seawater and never had a problem. (It runs the Navionics cards so should be OK for Ireland)

It's a valid point. We have the great laminated charts of the area and the old man knows 99% of where he boats in his head. We need GPS for the DSC radio really so olds can push the panic button. I'd then use the GPS map for seeing where the shallow bits are in newer areas around N Wales and finding the way in fog.

We do however have a hole the size of a navman in the console though. So may as well fill it with similar.

Nice one! When does she start in Build?

Those 6.1s are superb boats and that's the right engine for her

Well Blue Rocks was nice enough, and the new one's are supposed to be lighter. So with less weight and 40% more power she should do ok.

Not sure about the build date: I confirmed that I wanted it on Monday and they acknowledged but they haven't sent any bank details yet so i haven't actually put a deposit down. All the details are settled bar the plotter though which I shouldn't imagine will hold things up.

Yer - recent boats have featured foam core stringers and Nidaplast deck construction - both replacing heavier plywood.

Dunno how fast your's will be after I've tipped one of the Zerdinski Bros to mix a hundredweight of lead shot in with the chopped matt...
