We have two bit of Garmin kit on the boat and one Raymarine.
All the same age.
Only the Raymarine foggs.

Whilst I agree they make some good kit IMHO it is better for the enclosed boat.
Big sailing yachts or motor cruisers not the Rib/open boat market.

Time will tell but my Raymarine C80 seems pretty happy on my RIB - wether it's in a Force 8 or blazing hot sunshine.

Spoke to Raymarine this morning
cant get tide arrow to work
Cant get sog and cog bearing line to work
cant get depth to work in conjuction with ST60
lots more but its seams that when you look at the demo they dont tell you that you need to buy all the adds ons to make it all work.
In my case the add ons would come to more than the E80
So judge for your self
And by the way a Jan 2005 Hand book will not show you how to set up a platium chart ?

What sort of addons are you talking about? You can usually download updates to flash it with.

With my C80 the only "addons" I needed were the fishfinder and the GPS module - all the multifunction devices are the same in that respect aren't they?

On an E80 if you want the Sog and Cog bearing lines to work you need the
Raymarine speedo if you want the tide arrow to work you need the depth sounder 600 or 700 extra, and speedo i dont the price. its a bit of a con to give you a Demo/simulater to play with when you switch it to real life it dont work.dont get me going about the Data bar.

Well considering I haven't had the boat long - have been out in some pretty bad conditions - the Loughor Estuary can be pretty demanding even when there isn't much wind. Many years ago 18 people drowned in one night in what was supposed to be calm seas!!!

Goodness, you do take a lot of twaddle, had your Raymarine for 2 minutes and its the best thing in the world.

Actually, this whole thread is nonsensical, I have Navman, Garmin and Raymarine - they all have their merits. If you happen to have a Garmin fitted, of course you are going to say its the best etc etc (same applies to any manufacturer) you really are not going to admit to buying a load of crap now are you. There are the exceptions.
