New boat coming and tight budget (isn't it always). Want to be safe without going OTT. Boating will be up & down east coast to start with & next season getting a bit more adventurous. Want to avoid retro fitting if I can help it though. Wide open question - what to fit? I suppose wish list would be: combined Fishfinder/GPS/Plotter, Fixed VHF (DSC) with a handheld backup. Reliability with a bumpy RIB ride? Separate or combined units? Which make to go for? Where cheapest to buy? Help!

Raymarine if you can afford it for chartplotter/fishfinder - Navman are good but a few people have had probs with screen misting etc etc
We have a Raymarine chartplotter, a Lowrance depth sounder and Icom radio. We're happy with them all - but would love a bigger, colour screen on the plotter!

Er... i said it time and time again, but i have had a bad experience with a Garmin combined plotter / sounder. Reccomend a cheap Lowrance (Eagle) Sounder, they seam to work well, gives you a wider range of plotter choice not being tried to the integrated units aswell.
Might be worth a word with Steve the boat on here. He is Mr. Nautequipe marine. He does a fair bit of electronic stuff. Very helpfull and hes only in the west mids.
