Nav & Electonics Packages

New boat coming and tight budget (isn't it always). Want to be safe without going OTT. Boating will be up & down east coast to start with & next season getting a bit more adventurous. Want to avoid retro fitting if I can help it though. Wide open question - what to fit? I suppose wish list would be: combined Fishfinder/GPS/Plotter, Fixed VHF (DSC) with a handheld backup. Reliability with a bumpy RIB ride? Separate or combined units? Which make to go for? Where cheapest to buy? Help!

What a question

http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9842

Look at this thread - pretty well talked about!!!

I have found Cactus Marine about the cheapest - shop around and play one off against the other!!!

http://www.cactusnav.com/page.htm?ht...cactusnav.com/

Raymarine or Icom for vhf
Icom for Hand held
Raymarine if you can afford it for chartplotter/fishfinder - Navman are good but a few people have had probs with screen misting etc etc

OMG! I agree with the Codman!

We have a Raymarine chartplotter, a Lowrance depth sounder and Icom radio. We're happy with them all - but would love a bigger, colour screen on the plotter!

Er... i said it time and time again, but i have had a bad experience with a Garmin combined plotter / sounder. Reccomend a cheap Lowrance (Eagle) Sounder, they seam to work well, gives you a wider range of plotter choice not being tried to the integrated units aswell.

RIBase
Flush mount

Flush mount it all if you have space on your console - then you don't have the worry of someone un-bolting your kit when the boat is unattended.
