Moisture in Garmin GPS (292C)

It's pretty much unreadable in sunlight, just wondered if anyone had any ideas what to do: wait for summer, or open it up and let it dry out?

I have the same problem with my 179c sounder

Iam going to see what happens over the easter hols

if no good it will go back

Screen has misted up over the winter.......seemed to improve a little when out in warmer weather recently, but not significantly - anyone know of any comment from Garmin ?

Same propblem here (178c) most has gone now its warmed up a bit but the centre is now darker than the rest which means it cant be seeen from any kind of angle. We thought it was the frost we had a couple of months ago but seems to be a common problem.

188C on Flyby did the same thing, but got so bad it fused itself. Garmin replaced it with the the new 298C.

Our 188C is the same - but it clears after a couple of days use. It does get used most days though, so once it has cleared, it tends to stay that way. Not sure how long it would take to come back.

Also had the same problem with my 2006C. Garmin gave me a replacement but it happened with the new one as well. They told me there is a little breather vent in the corner and that the display should clear/dry out after 15 mins use. Takes more like a couple of hours in my experience. They may be waterproof but they sure aren't vapour proof.

I had a similar problem with my 238 sounder, but mine progressed until about 2/3 was unreadable. I called garmin, they gave me a maximum price for repair/replacement of about £150... I sent it off to them, and within a week had a replacement unit. - its worth giving them a call... it took a while to get through, but they were very friendly when I did get through.

It was reports like this that put me off Navman - seems Garmins are the same - at least their customer service is very good!!!

I just hope my Raymarine will be better - time will tell.

Forgot to mention that my Garmin was 2-3 years out of warranty, and they didnt charge to replace the unit - even though they quoted me the price of repair/replacement!
