My view is you only get what you pay for!

I actually dropped my first gopro off the side of the boat

( if you have diving equipment try diving round abersoch you could stumble across it somewhere! )

I purchased the gopro 2 after that and its great!

The ebay ones will be ok but the picture quality wont be as good thats all!

Went through the same last year as didn't feel I could justify the cost of a Gopro for the amount I'd use it.

I ended up with a veho muvi HD...does much the same ( ok maybe not quite as well) maybe 80% same but at less then half the cost of a go pro with wireless remote etc....good enough for what I want.

At the end of the day Youtube screws the quality down from what I can tell....but on laptop its more than good enough

Oanything for £30 will be 2mp and maybe 30fps....pointless on a boat nowadays...just not enough for decent resolution...

Like peter I bought a MUVI HD with all the extras good value package with remote and for the rib its ideal. Gives you a good enough record of your fun without breaking the bank.

We have had some great results with the Muvi and GoPro cameras - here's another option and a video for comparison 808 #16 HD Keychain Camera Review Video Vs GoPro Hero- RC cam - YouTube!

They are available on Ebay but there are fakes and various lenses etc, there is a big thread on YBW about these cameras.

If anyone's interested I've got a HERO HD and a HERO 2 HD for sale shortly, plus a WiFi back pac, a remote and other bits and pieces.

I'll put the detail up here soon or you can PM me for more information.

(I actually dropped my first gopro off the side of the boat )

thats exactly my fear both my kids go dingy sailing & ride motocross bikes & I know they will want to borrow it & at 9&13 wont be as carefull as I might be

I dont realy understand the technicalities either what should I look for as a minimum?
I assume 30fps is another way of expressing the mp of the camera?

seems to be loads of different muvi ones on amazon all at different prices realy confusing !!!

thanks for all the info so far!!

Lucky it was me that dropped it in and nobody else, I dont know how I would have reacted if anybody else had done it! (probably drowned them)

It was a horrible feeling, like somebody had kicked me in the balls...and then thrown my camera in the sea..and then sank my boat.

I have mine tied to everything now so it cant happen again, fingers crossed.

From what I can tell you would not utilise the gopro features too the full, have a look round the internet for reviews ect, there will be one which is much better value for money to you.

I know Contour have good reviews and they are slightly cheaper I think!

Good luck!

This HERO 2 sold on the basis that the seller accepts no responsibility if it should become detached from the roof of a certain racing boat at 75mph (give or take)

I was given a small Bullet 720 HD dog cam a couple of years ago and in decent light it is just about OK, but in low (overcast winter conditions) light it is not much cop really. It has taken some great snow skiing footage, strapped to a skiboot, on a headband, held in a hand etc, in very bright conditions.

The lens is very small and the quality suffers because of it. The Dogcam is waterproof, can record sound (when not in waterproof mode) very small about the size of a short fat crayon, the battery lasts for 2+ hours and you can use a 32GB micro SD, but given the choice I would get a Go Pro for the quality and low light capabilities.

Yes a drift is a brilliant bit of kit and I will still be using it along with my new GoPro Black. I have plans to use the two together but I can't say how or else that Whisper fella will copy me
