HAM license and 2m set would have you transmitting and receiving from a vehicle to a vessel or a house (in a similar manner to marine VHF) - but only for non-commercial purposes.

In the Netherlands is VHF-sending from shore not allowed. Even not when your boat is on a trailer...

Can be done from a fixed location with the correct license. Marina's and bridges have marine VHF sets. Just not from an auto or a boat on a trailer.

But certainly in the UK a marina or bridge etc is not supposed to have the ability to transmit on non-authorised channels so they are supposed to get their fixed set programmed to only transmit on 37A or 80 etc, not 16. I've heard of places that have been challenged on it in the past...

Pretty sure they don't have fixed channel sets here. I.e. the sets aren't actually modified to ONLY transmit on authorized channels. For instance our private towing companies listen and sometimes respond on 16 all the time. Those companies are based at marinas so presumably have non-mobile station licenses to coordinate between the vessel needing a tow, the CG, and their marina home base. If you hail a marina on 16 here asking about a slip, at least some will answer on 16 and direct you to their authorized working channel (I know I did it once not knowing the marina's authorized channel). They weren't particularly upset and I doubt they were scolded for it.

Marina's in the UK only have Channel 80, This is NOT a world wide allocation of the use of 80! Sure in the USA and Canada Marina's they do tend to use 16 as you say.

No they are allocated over about 5 different channels here in WA and neighboring BC. The only way to know is have a guidebook handy or try them on 16 and hope they answer.

Wouldn't bank on 80 either - Exmouth uses 14 for example

Technically your actually calling the harbour masters office, and they act as the Berthing master, as exmouth marina is part of the harbour masters responsibilities.!!

I use my handheld in the car all the time...to listen to the weather band on the way to the Pacific Ocean, or San Francisco Bay.
