FYI - the StructureScan hardware add-on from Lowrance is finally here. There is also a software upgrade needed. More info here - Lowrance StructureScan Released .

Has anyone bought and installed it or do you plan to?

I'm excited.

Hi,

As Paul, I am also waiting to see results deeper than at least 45m, otherwise my Humminbird 1197 does the job fine.

I might consider anyways if:

- The HDS 10 are considerable stronger in light than the HB. Compared to my garmin 4012, it looks dimmed. I dont get it how HB can be so much behind on this issue. The HB on a sunny day actually sucks!

- The controls, menus etc. are really oldfasioned on the HB, have had Lowrance before and cant imagine the new HDS being any worse than that.

- The GPS/plotter on the HB, dont even get close to my Garmin or old Lowrance, though its just a backup.

So someone out there, please buy one and give us some results

jg tech have not got then in uk they have back order only .

diver denmark ;have you tried or considered slaving another larger screen of the hb1197.
how far out is the gps on hb to the garnin if i go for one of these units i would like to scrap all the old tech and revamp the consul

Slave.. how do I do that, and is it possible?

Well, the Gps functions ok ofcourse, but:

Cursor: Slow to begin with, then speeds up and go miles past that point on the chart you want to investigate.
Waypointhandling: Same as on my old Lowarance LMS 350A I had i the late 80´!
Plotter: Boat icon hops across the screen when zoomed in. Update to slow?

This is just a few things I can come up with in a moment. The Garmin is really nice, number 1 in gps I think.

Diver, have you loaded the latest Humminbird software update on your unit? The GPS refresh is much improved and they also added some new colors which might help with the viewing in strong light.

diver i was under the impression from hb site this could be done via a conection on the backto give one screen in a cabin and the other up front .
when you have installed the update please post this site to give opion the yanks say its good but they are fishing in rivers not looking for wrecks at sea in 30/60 meters. thanks ph

Hi,

Last time I did an update, it went wrong and there has been a lot of issues with updates going wrong. The HB guys were very helpfull and in my case I could fix it my self. I live in DK, my unit is bought in the US, so have to go all the way back there if anything happens.

So waiting for Structure scan stuff, if I go for that, then I dont dare updating my HB. If I continue with HB, then I ofcourse try the new update. It looks some kind of promising.

Been poking about for StructureScan piccies at depth, if they are small enough found some in the 30 - 50 metre range, not much to scale them though but resolution seems impressive.

It looks nice... but does not really show the deep water SIDE SCAN capabilities. This DOWN SCAN is nice to look at, but useless when talking searching for wrecks, as it doesnt reveal anything 2D sonar wouldnt do.

Do I really have to be the first one posting real deep side scan images from this unit?

spoke to navico the importer of stucture scan today. will not be in uk till mid december may be & will be £ to$ £2500 for 10 inch sceen model they say that they will conduct sea trials when they get it . i hope these will be 40 /60meters

I thought it was just an ethernet device module you connected up to an existing HDS unit?

Yes, it usually is. Maybe they are packaging them together for sale?
