iPhone compatible Sound System

I am looking to put a good sound system into my rib but need some advice.
The speakers I'm looking at at the minute are sony xs-mp62 - are these all right? loud enough for a wrap around redbay even with canopy off?
My next problem is connecting the speakers to the iphone. I'm guessing my two options are;
1. Put in a car stereo with an aux lead
2. Put an amp in

I'm guessing the car stero works by just connecting power and speakers to it and plugging in the aux lead and off you go, but how does the amp work? Do amps have standard speaker and aux connections? Which amp should I go for? How do I keep it from getting wet or are there marine amps?

Thanks in Advance

Conor
