Is that the bike intercom with wires? I've got one and it's not bad. I can actually hear it over my bike exhaust if I shut the throttle

Yes it is Matt. I think it is an excellent buy, if I can keep the salt water out .

It's actually a shame lidl don't have them there all the time as they'd be a good bit of throwaway gear at that price.

My dad has a pair of these on board his Sun Legende for mooring etc but he's screwed the unit to a couple of old 'alice bands'... I won't be wearing one!

The RNLI use the Graytronics intercom on hovercraft, Atlantic 85 and E class:

Matt

Was it your dad in PBO last month with those Argos headsets?

Was in the readers practical projects section.

It depends on what use you want them for - racing in crash helmets I would opt for DS developments or Greytronics (can be hard to get hold of!) - for leisure use you look a bit of a numpty with a full headset on in a RIB, but there are loads to choose from in the USA!

Yes, ideally I would like something battery operated and wireless or bluetooth and incognito to wear. I noticed the referees in the rugby world cup were using what looked like a natty piece of kit with, what looked like, throat mics. They might be good on a RIB.

I was wondering about these. but they are in-helmet ones.

I want a set that is small, neat, and not too dorky, so that helm and passenger can chat easily while at full WOT. Ideally the helm/passenger should not be tethered together.

Am I asking too much? Lets sort out a RIB.net discounted bulk purchase.

Have a look on mandp.co.uk-they do bluetooth intercoms for bikes.

(No, it wasn't my dad in PBO btw)

Have a look at using two frs/gmrs radios clipped to the life jacket coupled with a light weight head set. Cost would be about $70.00 if you shop around. Also very useful for other purposes like talking to the missus when I am on the roof repairing the airconditioner.

Are they the same as those little walkie-talkies that have apprx 2KM range?

If so, we have two. But no head sets.

Yes. They sell a pair of lightweight head set over hear for about $40 for use on motorbikes. They use a 3mm single jack plug. Batteries on mine last about 4 hours depending on transmit time. I think they are great.

Do you think they could cope with wind noise of RIBing?
