Icom troubles

My radio decided to give up on the easdale weekend so it could do with a service, I noticed the TX light isn't coming on and I've no other radio to test to see that it is actually transmitting.

Where would be the best place to send it?

Mine went belly up and I sent it to....

Icom UK Ltd
Blacksole House
The Boulevard
Altira Park
Herne Bay
Kent
CT6 6GZ

01227 741741

Turned out to be a dodgy RX crystal, they turned it round in a day, very helpful too.

Nope. I just have the radio and no spares to swap/try

Tbh I bought it S/H off here so I don't know the history ect of the unit, as its a safety item I thought I might punt it away for a service and let someone in the know check it over.

Ask if they do a service exchange. Raymarine have a maximum repair charge regardless of the condition of what you send them. If its stuffed, you get a re-manufactured unit for about half the cost of new.

I did ask them, they said they didnt do s/h or remanufactured, if I wanted to replace the duff unit I would need to buy a new unit via one of their agents.

the m-31 was a crap radio. mine suffered water damage, so did my mates, and at the time i kept seeing things like spare battery packs etc for sale on ebay as though other people had suffered the same and no longer needed the bits. in my case icom were great - they said the radio was out of warranty but they gave me an ex demo icm1-euro with 12month warranty totally free of charge! still going strong 6 years later, and also just bought an m71.

2 x M31s that never even made it on the boat because they leaked like seives. Icom replaced with Euros. Been Great.

But I wouldn't choose a M31 again.

Nowt you can do with a second hander that fails. ??Standard Horion's look and feel tougher...

Curious... Does it have a warning on it that it is not a lifesaving piece of equipment or something simillar - makes me chuckle every time I see it on the Euro!!
