Icom IC-M505 water damage

I have the above unit fixed in our consol. The skipper reported problems with it yesterday, typically going in to scan mode and others uncommanded.
Checked it out today and found that whilst the base unit is fine, the handmike contained some water. It has badly damaged the internals.
The unit is under two years old since fitted by Parker, so alittle disappointed.
Question:- Can a new mike be fitted (DIY?)? Or is it a complete new radio? The hand mike is an HM-126G
Either way, I need a quick turn around

amazon.com show an HM-126G replacement mike which suggests a replacement can be fitted and the pic appears to show push on connectors, so no soldering, assuming you can get the radio open and then sealed again. You'd need to find a UK stockist though, as you need it ASAP.

fitted new radio, repair old if you can then keep as spare.

do you really want to skimp on a essential safety kit?

The mic is the same as for my M603: (mine's a HM-126b but presumably merely an earlier model) and will surely be available direct from ICOM. If not, it's available in the UK for around £56.00 from: Icom IC-M505 Accessories, ML&S Martin Lynch and Sons Ltd
I have twice had a similar problem with mine from water ingress but with no internal physical damage (just shorting causing channel changes). Each time I opened it up (four screws on the back), left it in the airing cupboard overnight to dry out and reassembled with it working as good as new.
I need mine today but if you want to borrow it during the week until you get yours mended/a replacement, give me a call.

The HM126B is the user changeable standard mic, they are 39 pounds plus delivery. I will check on stock in the morning for you.

Thanks for the kind offer David. Like you I took Mike apart yesterday to dry out and whilst it has stopped it going into constant scan mode, the internals look very badly corroded. I am going to get Icom to to service it for me and will purchase a replacement tomorrrow and fit straight away.

Bought and fitted a new radio and old unit in the post to Icom
Thanks to Andre, who as the original purchaser, had the info needed.

I will update when Icom have had a chance to look

As promised a quick update.

Unit sent to Icom UK, who recieved on 19th August.

No communication from them and no unit repaired.

Email sent over weekend and reply recieved today. No grey microphones available, but can fit a black one (to a grey unit) or wait until a grey one is sent from Japan in several weeks! But will be replaced under warranty.

Not best pleased that 1) they did not think it important enough to keep me updated, and 2) a considerable delay in repairing what I would have thought was a "routine" item. Had I not bought a replacement unit, we would have been unable to operate for a long period.

Whilst I have not had that many troubles with various bits of kit, this is way below the service I have got from Barrus, Simrad and others

Just a quick pinch of your post , we had two fixed radio problems in two days, Navman failed as I posted but AZTEC at Hamble Point have been great, straight onto the boat and changed over a new set and fixed another electrical issue, next day out another problem on a rib on fixed radio and chart plotter, which they went straight onto and are fixing again. No complaints

Unusual of them. I sent an M33 in as it stopped receiving. They phoned 2 days later, it had arrived, been tested, defect found and replaced and on it's way home.

Less than a week from door to door - and no charge sir.

Great service.

I was surprised too, hence the post. However, after putting comment on this forum, within 24 hours got an email from them and the next day it was returned repaired!
