I am just about to buy a GPS tracker

I have done some searching on this forum (its fantastic for info) & it seems for my requirements the genuine Xenun TK102-2 with 12v to 5v converter from a Guy called David, (anybody got the correct contact detail for him as web seems abit confusing), payment by paypal it comes direct from China is the one to go for.

Pay as you go Orange / O2 sim and away I go. Just looking for a little bit of an update from pervious persons who have already taken the plunge into this set up.

Am I correct as above?
Not sure yet if I will link directly to rib battery or keep recharging it so is there an another charger I need to order?

Thanks appreciated for conformation of above by more experienced persons in this area other than myself

A few of us bought the following
--Leapy recommended--"As there are a load of clones out there sold through eBay I bought mine direct from the original manufacturer Xexun, the only way I felt I could be absolutely sure. You need their TK102. Be very wary of the clones, they're 'iffy'

Xexun don't actually sell to Joe Public direct but they sold me a 'sample' at a US$ rate (and so is subject to the strength, or otherwise, of the pound)

Email david@xexun.com with the request. He was very very helpful. Make sure and get the 12v to 5v converter too if you want to hard wire to the boat battery, otherwise the internal battery only lasts 36-48 hours before needing a re-charge. It comes with a 240v charger and two Li-ion rechargeables. You'll need a PAYG SIM".

I e mailed David at Xexun and took the unit with a mains hard wire, Fitted and works well. Gives you a few options to set and then if moved you will be texted, also a geo fence if you dont want boat outside an area when in use and also a locate text. I have had no problems and David is the correct supplier and not a copy

TK102-2.with 12v to 5v converter to hard wire it to a battery is what I bought and knot yet bought TK102-2 with a two open wires car charger and this is the link to the long forum about the unit-

I am interested in this but thought I would search apps files first and could not find it. Is there a name for it on apps files?(rather than downloading from unknown website)

Has anyone tried it yet?

Might be a great bit of kit and much more costly, but I see on the web site the Garmin has a battery only so not wired in? The battery life is one day to one month depending on operation chosen. If that is the case then it is no use to me

We already have the TK units and proved very reliable at half the cost per boat. The app that has been posted might even make this even better

There's an iPhone App "GPS Tracker TK" that works well for Xenun TK trackers.

You have to cut and paste SMS messages from the TK as Apple doesn't allow Apps to read SMS messages last time I read.

Yup! I've got a Xexun, I bought the hardwire kit from another vendor on Ebay as Xexun didn't do them at the time. £10 quids worth of Orange payg has lasted 12 months. I only have it set to report on demand, not continuously. I didn't know about the xexun iphone app, I'll have a look at that.

Hi, I am looking for a gps tracker myself for recovery in the event of theft.
I have seen this unit on ebay.
I like it because of the wide range of supply voltage, I want to use it on a 37 volt battery.
I am a bit foggy on how they function.
I understand that you can poll them with a text message and they send their location back. But I have seen some tracker websites that seem to offer continuous tracking via their website. I can't see how that works without running up a huge phone bill.
Also, can they be set to record positions then be downloadable, this one has a usb port.
So I would be curious to hear about anyone else's experience.

Its not a unknown website, its Google Play (formerly know as Android Market), the official site for Android apps.

The continuous tracking works over GPRS data. Depending on the SIM card that you put into the tracker, you can us GPRS/3G to track the unit. Each position update only uses a few bytes of data so a couple of meg/month should give you 5 minute interval tracking. I just have mine set to reply to a poll text & ringfenced, so if it moves out of a certain area it sends me a text. The iphone app looks promising even at £7

Cheers, I hadn't seen that one. I can't decide what if anything the 7 quid app does that the 2 quid one doesn't. Have you used either?

You can hard wire the Garmin in. Garmin sell the lead on line.

Free 1yr subscription and then £45 per annum thereafter.
