Holding the loom in place

Does anyone have any recommendations for decent cable clips/ cable tie holders?

I've been using the Maplins self adhesive ones with the sticky pads replaced by sikaflex, but even after roughing them up and degreasing them, the damn things are falling off the Sika, and the console hasn't even come out of the garage yet.

The sticky pads won't hold either.

I can't use screw down holders as there isn't room to run the loom anywhere I can screw into the GRP.

Hi Nos I use cable tie holders that are screwed down. Only any use if you have something thick enough to screw them into of course but they certainly work

Thats the problem -I was editing while you replied

There's so much stuff through the ply reinforced parts of the console that I can't run the loom there.

I think there's something in the plastic of the Maplins ones that makes Sika release from them. They feel almost greasy.

The other things is using an adhesive that works with nylon. Sika does not stick to Nylon (probably the only things it doesn't stick to)..

What Glue Sticks to Nylon? | eHow.co.uk

According to this hot glue may be an option or silicone caulk ??

Hot glue might be worth a go-ta! I'll get playing. I don't really want to go the glassing ply in route because it'll be bloody awkward-the loom is hanging where I'd need to glass it in at the mo and I'll have to disconnect everything.

I might have to though.

Actually, thinking about it I've got marine ply lying around. If I epoxy seal it, it should sika in to screw to.

Hot melt glue doesn't work on the Maplins cable fixings-just tried it.

Might try wiping down the nylon and whatever you're sticking it to with MEK or Acetone prior to applying. It's not a long term solution, but it usually helps.

There are some epoxies that will stick to low energy plastics (didn't think nylon was one, but polyethylene is); might do a search for gluing polyethylene, which should get you a local source. Over here, Mr. Sticky's (yes, that's actually the brand name) Poly-Bonder, and 3M's DP-8005 are fairly readily available. The easier sourced ones usually require flame treatment of the plastic before bonding (I don't think the 3M stuff does, but it's expensive.)

Luck;

jky

I wiped them down with xylene, it didnt seem to make any difference.

I'll have a hunt for the glues as well, thanks.

It does make me wonder why nobody makes flat/glueable cable tie mounts out of anything other than nylon because the sticky pads they use are abysmal.

Cable tie brackets without the sticky pad on the back, roughen them up with some 40 grit and use a 2 pack epoxy or we use Plexus... Works every time

How 'bout M3 S/S hex head bolts 'glued' head first to the glasswork with a dob of resin? You could then push the P clip over the bolt and add a washer 'n nut? Perhaps?
Neat if done in straight lines.
