Handheld vhf for around the £100 mark

Strangely not! There’s nothing wrong with the Icom but the Standard Horizon is just a better deal.

I've got one of these and its a pretty solid unit. You can't go wrong with Icom IMHO
The hx300e floats.......

Welcome to StandardHorizon.com

And has a 3yr waterproof guarantee

not sure about the standard horizon but the icom wont transmit when its in floating flashing mode so if you fall overboard with fastened to your jacket its of no more use to you than a flashing beacon.( I have a hx300 because it was cheaper too )

That seems like a serious flaw. Can you switch the flash off, so you then can transmit? Even if you can - I'd prefer to not have to faff if I'm in the drink.

There’s nothing about it in the manual but it says it stops flashing as soon as you press a key. Not sure if that includes the PTT.

not sure if ptt switches it off I was going to buy the icom as my main is icom and I like things the same . but while researching budget hand held I read online somewhere of a guy fell off his yacht and it wouldn't transmit while in flashing mode so I asked the guy in the chandlery and he confirmed it so I bought the hx instead
