GPS - Viewing Direction

Hey all. Just bought a Garmin 298c at the Boat Show to have something to do whilst boat is being built. Having connected to a power source, to familiarise myself with the unit I noticed that viewing is normal from centre, but completely different from Left or Right.

From the right (~30-60 deg off centre) the screen is extremely light and faded (low contrast) and difficult to read.

From the left (~30-60 deg off centre), the screen is much higher contrast, deep colours and easy to read (actually easier than straight viewing).

Is this a fault? Does anyone else have similar symptoms.

All the boat equipment screens I've owned, whether mono or colour, have been different to view side to side .

I considered Flush mounting on the passenger side (left), BUT with better viewing from the left I would be better flush mounting in front of the Driver and the passenger would still be able to see the GPS as well!

Anyone else have similar problems?

I have two LCD TV's and it's not a problem with either of them, so it can be done.
